dunaway/WILLIAMS Architects was hired to rebuild the Purvis Chapel for Moore Funeral Service in Purvis following an electrical fire that destroyed the entire building that held fifty years of memories.
Working with the owners, we designed a new space that includes a lovely welcoming lobby for receiving guests, a chapel for funeral services, and a reception room where families can gather with friends and share memories following the service.
A clean neutral pallet carried throughout the building to update their finishes and furnishing to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere especially in a time of grief. Special attention to details in the repose rooms and chapel, these spaces are designed to feel intimate but accommodate large crowds. Special lighting considerations were a top design priority. Local Mississippi artwork was chosen to bring in a level of local sophistications. The exterior is a traditional brick facade with a well-designed flow of traffic and parking to handle funeral processions.
